Well,  God has provided an excellent program to help you with those feelings!  The P-2 Project is a  "Jail Visitation" program.  It has been set up especially for those who have never done any type of  jail or prison ministry. 

It is a very good place to start and see if these ministries are where God wants you.  The P-2 Project has Training Sessions on a regular basis, usually held at the Minnehaha County Jail.  There is no obligation to participate in the program if you attend the Training Session.  If you would like more information, please feel free to contact Tracey at (605) 363-3956.  Or you can email her at:  tracey@siouxvalley.net
